It Doesn't Feel Good to Pay Less

Every so often I get a burst of hyper frugality and decide I can live a Spartan lifestyle.  (Food?  Who needs food?)  I tell myself spending luxuriantly is wasteful and morally wrong.  Why not be practical?  Sensible.  Live like a regular person, not some pampered princess.

Then I do things like buying flats at Payless Shoes.

Being well shod is a privilege, not a right, although it ought to be.  But there's a reason those flats were $9 (cute as the blue leopard print was).  After one day of use they were irreparably filthy (canvas is cruelty-free, but a mother to get clean) and my achilles tendons were raw.  Of course, since the soles were cardboard I had to invest a few more dollars into insoles.

Those canvas oxford slip-ons with elastic securing the tongues dug into my intermediate cuneiform bone!  Finally cut it with scissors, (the elastic, not that bone on the top of my foot) so now I've got a pair of filthy (lesson not learned on that canvas thing), damaged shoes.  Another $22 down the drain after about three wearings.  They'll be placed out by the dumpster tonight.

So maybe Payless feels good on your wallet, but it'll leave your dogs barkin'!
